Assignment #5 (20 points)

Use the Adaptations Framework to determine possible assistive technology options for the student in the following case study. After determining possible assistive technology options, discuss the other steps that must be taken to ensure the selected devices will create a good person-technology match.

Case Study

1. Gina is a new student entering your middle school history class. As a result of cerebral palsy, Gina uses a wheelchair and does not communicate with typical speech. Gina will have to use a computer to complete most assignments, but does not have the ability to access a standard mouse or keyboard. She does however have some gross motor movement in her hands and arms. What strategies, technology and software would you use to help Gina access required work and assignments? What strategies would you use to help Gina communicate with you and others in the class? Explain each of your choices.
